Restore Natural-Looking Volume Without Traditional Fat Harvesting

OVERVIEW
As we age, lose weight, or experience changes associated with GLP-1 weight loss medications, we naturally lose facial fat volume. This loss of support can contribute to hollow cheeks, temple hollowing, aging hands, and an overall tired appearance.
Renuva® is an injectable adipose matrix designed to restore volume in areas where fat naturally exists. Unlike traditional fat grafting, Renuva does not require liposuction or surgical fat harvesting.
Renuva provides a framework that supports the body's natural tissue integration process and may help restore volume gradually over time.
Dr. Ptak may recommend Renuva for patients seeking natural-looking volume restoration with minimal downtime.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Renuva?
Renuva is an adipose matrix derived from donated human adipose tissue that is processed according to established tissue banking standards.
How is Renuva different from traditional fat transfer?
Traditional fat transfer requires harvesting your own fat through liposuction. Renuva does not require fat harvesting and can often be performed entirely in the office.
Am I a candidate if I have very little body fat?
Yes. Renuva may be an excellent option for patients who do not have enough donor fat for traditional fat grafting.
Can Renuva help with Ozempic® or GLP-1 facial volume loss?
Patients experiencing facial volume loss following significant weight reduction may be candidates for Renuva treatment. A consultation is necessary to determine the most appropriate treatment plan.
How does Renuva work?
When Renuva is injected, it creates a honeycomb-like matrix that is then filled with the body’s own fat cells. Over the course of the three months post treatment Renuva dissolves and is eliminated by your body, leaving only your own fat cells exactly where you want them.
How long does Renuva last?
Renuva eventually disappears and is replaced with your own fat, leaving lasting results that remain as long as your own fat cells would normally last – which varies for each individual.
About facial aging:
Until now, medically trained aesthetic injectors have not had an off-the-shelf solution to replace facial fat pad loss with the patient’s own fat. With Renuva, now they can!
In the face, the deep layers of fat make us look youthful, and the superficial fat makes us look healthy. By restoring these layers of fat, we can restore a youthful, healthy appearance.
Why Renuva?
Renuva is the first and only treatment that, when injected into areas such as the face, hands and other areas of the body, is eventually replaced by your very own fat cells.
Until now, the only way to add fat to a desired area was to undergo liposuction, which usually requires going under general anesthesia to harvest fat to inject into the desired area.
With Renuva, we now have an off-the-shelf solution that can replace your fat loss with your own fat, without the need for surgery!
Since the end results are comprised of your body’s own fat cells, not only do they look natural, they actually are natural! With Renuva you can now entirely avoid developing “Filler Fatigue.”
Filler Fatigue is the result of water drawn to the particles in hyaluronic acid fillers. This results in the molecules becoming surrounded by water – causing swelling, which is that puffy or swollen look that can often be described and confused with someone looking “overdone.”
Who can perform Renuva treatments?
Renuva is only performed by highly qualified and experienced medically trained aesthetic injectors.
How many injections of Renuva are necessary per treatment?
The amount of Renuva used per treatment depends on the person, the area being injected, and the desired result.
How long does Renuva last, compared to other fillers?
Renuva is not a filler. Renuva is the only off-the-shelf treatment that replaces fat loss with your own fat, leaving lasting results. While each person is unique, the average fat cell life span is 10 years.
Does Renuva work the same for men and women, people of different races / nationalities?
Patients that have received, or plan to continue receiving treatments, of neurotoxins or hyaluronic acid fillers in other areas can also be treated with Renuva.
Can I use Renuva if I’ve had a face lift or other cosmetic surgeries?
Yes, Renuva is ideal to enhance the results of a facelift, and in conjunction with other cosmetic surgeries.
How long has Renuva been on the market?
Renuva was first used in reconstructive surgery and is now being embraced by the aesthetic industry. The treatment is currently available in select USA cities, and will be available in major markets over the course of 2020 through 2021.
Can I go in the sun after using Renuva?
Renuva is not affected by sun exposure, although it’s always recommended to protect skin from the sun’s damaging UVA (the kind that age you) and UVB rays (the kind that burn you and can lead to skin cancer).
How long does a Renuva treatment take?
The duration of a Renuva treatment will depend on the size of the area being treated.
Is Renuva an invasive treatment?
Unlike fat grafting, Renuva is a non-invasive treatment that is injected by a licensed and medically trained aesthetic professional in a plastic surgery, or dermatology office.
Renuva can help women and men who have experienced volume loss, and/or have contour deficiencies.
We stop growing our own fat and collagen in our early 20s, and begin to lose fat in the deep layers of the face as we age. This loss begins to become noticeable in our late 30s and early 40s, which is when many people often begin using hyaluronic acid fillers to replace volume loss.
Until now, medically trained aesthetic doctors and injectors, such as Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, did not have a way to replace facial fat pad loss with the patient’s own fat.
Patients as young as mid-30s can begin using Renuva as a preventative anti-aging treatment.
Is there a chance the treatment will not be effective?
Unlike fat grafting, where 20-80% of the harvested fat won’t live, Renuva contains no living cells that can die.
Renuva only contains the same collagens, growth factors and proteins that exist naturally in fat.
A series of Renuva treatments are recommended to build to the desired result.
Are there any allergens in Renuva that people should be aware of?
Renuva is not suggested for patients with severe allergy sensitivities or with a history of anaphylaxis. Patients who are concerned about severe allergy sensitivities or have concerns should consult their physician.
Possible adverse effects using human adipose include, but are not limited to:
- Anaphylaxis or other allergic response (e.g., urticaria)
- Specific or non-specific immune response to some component of the graft
- Rare allergic reactions have been reported
Is there any area of the face or other parts of the body where you cannot use Renuva?
Renuva may be used in areas where native fat exists, such as the subcutaneous or deep fat planes. It is not meant to be placed in dermal, glandular or muscular planes. For example, Renuva is not for use in the lips.
Can Renuva be used in the lips?
Renuva is only recommended for areas where you normally have fat. Renuva is not recommended for lips.
Can a Renuva treatment be done in a doctor’s office?
Yes, Renuva should only be performed by a licensed, highly skilled, medically trained aesthetic injector located in a plastic surgery or dermatology practice.

Renuva® vs. Fat Transfer
Renuva® and traditional fat transfer are both designed to restore facial volume, but they are not identical treatments.
Traditional fat grafting uses a patient's own harvested fat and may be ideal for larger-volume restoration.
Renuva® may be appropriate for patients seeking a less invasive treatment without fat harvesting.
The best option depends on your goals, anatomy, and available donor fat.
