About Injectables

As we age, we often seek out convenient, but effective solutions to make our skin smoother. Injectables make our skin appear young in a quick, simple procedure! Injectables are applied to areas of your skin that have developed fine lines, wrinkles or appear sunken due to lost volume. The injectables will work to smooth out the lines and improve the texture of your skin. Silhouette Surgical Spa offers many types of injectables to improve your appearance.

Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin

Botox has been used therapeutically for over sixteen years to treat a variety of medical conditions. It is approved in more than seventy-five countries. Botox for therapeutic use remains one of the most widely researched medicines in the world, providing you with a safe option to enhance your appearance.

Botox is an FDA-approved neurotoxin protein that is injected into specific muscles groups that are known to cause wrinkles. The technical term for these drugs is neuromodulators that reduce, not paralyze, muscle action. The latest competitors approved in the US are Dysport and Xeomin which all have nearly identical action and duration. At the Silhouette Surgical Spa Dr Ptak uses all three drugs.

The Botox injection will work to temporarily reduce communication between the muscle and nerves. The pause in communication will relax your face and prevent further development of wrinkles and lines in the treatment area. Botox treatments last for a few months but will need to be reapplied when you notice the lines returning.

Botox is not only useful for diminishing the appearance of lines but also helps to reduce excessive sweating and migraines.

Juvederm XC

Composed of a hyaluronic acid, Juvederm XC treats lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. This offshoot of Juvederm contains lidocaine to enhance the comfort of the patient. Juvederm XC will enhance your facial features for up to a year!

Juvederm Voluma XC

Juvederm Voluma XC is also a hyaluronic acid-based filler that is used to improve the midfacial area, specifically the cheeks. This injectable is often used to add volume back to areas that have become hollow looking with age. This filler also contains lidocaine, which reduces discomfort caused by injection.

Restylane

Restylane is a popular hyaluronic acid-based filler that corrects moderate to severe wrinkles that may appear from the edge of the nose to the mouth.

Lips may also be improved and enhanced with Restylane, however Dr Ptak is very conservative with lip injections to avoid the overdone “duck lips” so often seen with inexperienced injectors.

Restylane is now prepared in three different consistencies to further customize your result.

Bellafill

This is an advanced, FDA-approved permanent injectable that treats moderate to severe lines, as well as acne scars for beautiful results. This injectable has a collagen base that uses miniscule microspheres to enhance the structure of the filler. This revolutionary filler will improve the quality and structure of your skin for up to five years. Dr Ptak also uses this filler to restructure the cheeks and jawline where aging of the facial bones causes volume loss.

Sculptra

This injectable will work to improve lines and wrinkles all over the face.

Sculptra is composed of poly-l-lactic acid micro fibers that improves volume and stimulates collagen growth. This filler will work to enhance your skin texture for up to two years. Sculptra is very effective to enhance moderate overall volume loss of the face and is typically injected in larger volumes of 5, 10, 15, or 20 cc increments.

Dr. Ptak offers his patients a diverse amount of options to approach and improve their specific concerns.

The Benefits of an Injectable Procedure

Injectables offer many advantages, such as improving the quality and structure of your skin as well as enhancing and restoring the facial volume loss that is inevitable with aging. Injectables can also help you fight aging by reducing the development of future lines and wrinkles.

The most noted advantage of injectables are there ease of application. Injectables are nonsurgical and require no incisions.

This lets patients have fast, non-invasive procedures that require no downtime. For significant improvement, try injectables to reduce your wrinkles!

Are Injectables Right For You?

Anyone with moderate to severe wrinkles or folds or volume loss can benefit from absorbable and permanent injectable cosmetic fillers. The procedure can also be used to sculpt the face, fill in hollow cheeks, improve a chin or jawline, and to enhance other areas where fat loss can result in a hollow or gaunt appearance. Those with deeper folds, such as laugh lines around the mouth may decide to use a non-absorbable product for permanent results. Since Dr. Ptak is also a national expert in fat grafting techniques he can also explain and contrast the relative benefits of commercial fillers versus fat grafting for each individual patient. We encourage anyone who is interested in the many benefits of injectables to reach out to our offices to see how this simple procedure can improve your life!

Personal Consultation

There are numerous injectable fillers, Dr. Ptak will examine your face and current health to choose which filler will benefit you the most. The products can be roughly grouped into a few categories.

Biologically-based. Biologically-based collagen stimulants such as Sculptra and fat can be used for filling in wrinkles and folds as well as more diffuse volume loss with results that can last for years.

Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are a common choice as hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are popular because they will be broken down and naturally metabolized by the body.

Dr. Ptak will walk you through the procedure with you and how you can best prepare for it. Do not apply lotions or other products to the treatment sites before your appointment. Dr. Ptak normally applies a topical anesthesia before the procedure begins to help improve the experience. If you are sensitive to discomfort, ask about further options during your consultation. You should avoid antihistamines about two weeks before the procedure to decrease your chances of developing bruises.

Together, Dr. Ptak and you will customize a treatment plan that achieves your cosmetic goals.

Procedure

All of the various products are injected directly into the area requiring improvement. For simple correction of wrinkles one treatment may be all that is required. For areas requiring more extensive sculpting, several injection treatments may be necessary. Applied with a delicate hand and years of experience with the patients safety always foremost, Dr. Ptak understands how each injectable will improve your unique concern and will recommend the best injectable for your needs.

When you arrive for your treatment, a topical anesthetic will be administered. Once this has taken effect, Dr. Ptak will apply the injections to the predetermined areas. Dr. Ptak may massage the treated areas to distribute the filler and ensure your aesthetic goal is achieved. Once the injections have been completed, you may return to your regular schedule. This treatment commonly takes about twenty minutes.

Recovery

Care required following the use of injectables will vary depending on the particular product used. Common post treatment practices include use of antibiotics, application of specific oils or creams, or daily massage of the face. When leaving the appointment, the injection sites may be numb, red, swollen or bruised. An icepack, applied delicately, will help reduce these symptoms. After twenty-four hours, a light layer of makeup can be applied. The above symptoms should diminish within forty-eight hours.

Injectable Treatment Results

Injectables that use collagen will improve the structure of your skin and return a youthful perkiness; overall, you will enjoy a smoother textured skin. These results will be immediately noticeable and improve through the first few days after treatment. The results longevity will depend on the injectable used. Some treatments will last up to three months, while others last for up to five.

Complementary Procedures

Injectables are a simple procedure that pair well with other treatments. Dr. Ptak offers many solutions that can be used alongside injectables to provide you with a comprehensive transformation.

Fat Grafting

This technique is a more invasive process but provides long-lasting, natural feeling enhancements that can be applied all over the body. This technique uses liposuction to collect donor fat from one area of the body. The fat collected during liposuction is processed and injected to another area. This procedure improves the contour of both areas of the body involved in the treatment. The process is minimally-invasive and commonly used to enhance the facial region and neck, breasts, and buttocks. Fat grafting helps to improve your body in a natural, safe way. If you are interested in the dramatic results a fat transfer will have on your appearance, discuss your options with Dr. Ptak.
