Dr. Ptak's personal philosophy and vision for breast augmentation surgery is to achieve a very natural and proportioned result that balances and brings into harmony the features of the feminine body. Female breasts should be just full enough to entice the imagination but should never be so full that they become disproportioned or unmanageable. Dr. Ptak also believes that the surgical process should be as pain free and risk free as possible and a truly pleasing experience. The result should have the smallest hidden scar possible and be so natural that even your personal physician would be fooled.

Women who desire larger breasts because their breasts never developed to a size that meets their expectation. Others want to bring balance to a breast that is noticeably smaller than the other. Often, women want the procedure to restore their natural breast volume, which may have decreased as a result of pregnancy, weight loss, or aging.

Dr. Ptak usually makes a small incision around the nipple and creates a pocket under the muscle into which the implant is inserted. This pocket is made either directly behind the breast tissue or beneath the pectoral muscle located below the breast tissue and above the chest wall. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia. The operation takes about one and a half hours and is performed in an outpatient surgical facility and the patient will be able to go home on the same day.

Within a day or two after surgery you should be up and around. Initial discomfort is usually quite tolerable and is controlled with oral medication. Return to work is usually possible in 5-7 days. Sutures are completely buried and dissolvable – no suture removal is necessary. Dr. Ptak recommends wearing a snug sports bra for the first 2-3 weeks. Light activities can be resumed as tolerated. Aerobic activities can be started in about three weeks. Daily exercising (moving or sliding) the implants within the breast pockets during the postoperative period may reduce the frequency of wrinkling and capsular (pocket) contracture.
